Hut-to-Hut Tours

Leaving mountain refuge 'La Croix De Bonhomme' on snowshoes after heavy overnight snowfall, Beaufortaine Alps

5 Day Remote Back Country Snowshoe Touring, walking grade D (tough)

£ 495 GBP, guiding only

A rare opportunity to undertake a remote, unsupported mountain journey on snowshoes, backpacking from point-to-point through unspoilt off-piste winter wilderness. Get a real sense of winding back the clock as we trek unsupported through this magnificent, awesome environment.

This brief is very open and flexible, and will be designed around your wishes. The tour could be constructed around walking from village to village and staying in local gites / B&Bs, or staying high and remote, and overnighting in unmanned mountain refuges (huts).

Depending on the chosen destination and route, walking days may be long and arduous, some degree of backpacking (carrying supplies and equipment) will be required, and accommodation en route may be very basic indeed.

The rewards? On last winter’s hut-to-hut tour we walked for 5 days in splendid isolation without seeing another soul. If you are interested in this tour, it is essential you make contact early to discuss your needs and expectations.

For an explanation of walking grades, visit the Practical Info page.

Group size min 2 max 6.

Schedule

Day 1 (Sat) – Arrival. Evening introductory briefing at accommodation, followed by group dinner.

Days 2-6 (Sun-Wed) – Snowshoeing. This may involve a day of acclimatisation and training followed by a 4 day tour, or 5 days of touring. Venue and route will be chosen according to group needs and wishes, and snow and weather conditions. Accommodation will vary according to chosen route. Transfer back to Chamonix Valley afternoon of Day 6, where the tour ends.

NB: the itinerary and venue needs to be flexible to accommodate the range of needs and conditions we may face at the time. To facilitate this, the price quoted is for guiding only, and all additional costs incurred during the tour must be met by the group. These could include vehicle transport, accommodation, backpacking provisions, uplift, etc.
